# Legal help in Saudi Arabia for foreign individuals and families

Foreign individuals and families can get legal help in Saudi Arabia from a licensed Saudi law firm, whether they live there or abroad. We help with cases, arrests and travel bans, matters handled from abroad, property, and money owed to you. Much of this can usually be done without travelling, and the table below shows where to start.

## What do we handle for foreign individuals and families?

We act for foreign individuals and families in four areas. Each page below explains how the matter usually works and links to the detailed pages.

- [Foreigners facing a case, arrest or travel ban](https://saudilaw.co/cases-arrests-travel-bans/) — We help foreigners facing a case, an arrest or a travel ban in Saudi Arabia, and the families supporting them.
- [Handling a Saudi legal matter from abroad](https://saudilaw.co/from-abroad/) — We handle Saudi legal matters for people and companies outside the Kingdom, through a power of attorney and documents certified in their own country.
- [Property ownership by foreigners](https://saudilaw.co/property-for-foreigners/) — We advise foreigners buying and owning property in Saudi Arabia and check the deal before they pay.
- [Debt recovery and enforcement](https://saudilaw.co/debt-recovery/) — We recover money owed by companies and individuals in Saudi Arabia, including enforcing foreign judgments and arbitration awards. This includes money a person in Saudi Arabia owes you.

Before you hire any lawyer, check the licence. Our page on [how to check a Saudi lawyer's licence from anywhere](https://saudilaw.co/find-a-lawyer-in-saudi-arabia/check-a-lawyers-licence/) shows you how. You can check us too: [Company details](https://saudilaw.co/about/verify-us/) shows where to find the firm's records.

## How does the first contact with the firm work?

It starts with a few lines from you, by WhatsApp, a call or email. There are no forms on this site.

1. **Send us a few lines.** A short outline is a few lines about what has happened. Send it by WhatsApp, phone or email. Do not send any documents yet.
2. **Agree on the work and the fee in writing.** We tell you whether we can help and what we need from you. If we can help, we send you a written proposal for the work and the fee.
3. **Sign the engagement letter.** An engagement letter is the written agreement between you and the firm. Work starts only after it is signed.

### What to put in your first message

- **Who you are:** a person or a company, and your country. If you are writing for someone else, such as a family member, say who they are.
- **The other party:** the person or company your problem is with, if there is one.
- **What happened and when:** a few lines, with the main dates.
- **Where you are now:** in Saudi Arabia or abroad, and in which country.

We work in Arabic and English. In your first message, tell us which language you prefer. Our page on [how we work with clients outside Saudi Arabia](https://saudilaw.co/how-we-work/) explains remote work, fees and the engagement letter in more detail.

## Can you deal with a Saudi legal matter while you are outside Saudi Arabia?

Usually, yes. You sign a power of attorney in your own country and have it officially stamped there. A Saudi lawyer can then usually act for you in Saudi Arabia. Some steps may still need you, or someone you appoint, in person.

A [power of attorney](https://saudilaw.co/glossary/power-of-attorney/) (wakala in Arabic) is a signed document that lets someone, such as a lawyer, act for you. You usually sign it in front of a notary, an official who confirms signatures. Our page on [power of attorney for Saudi Arabia, signed abroad](https://saudilaw.co/from-abroad/power-of-attorney/) explains each step.

Documents signed abroad usually need official stamps before Saudi courts and offices accept them. There are two routes: an [apostille](https://saudilaw.co/glossary/apostille/), one certificate added in your own country, or legalisation through a Saudi embassy or consulate. Which one applies depends on the Saudi court or office that will use the document. Some Saudi bodies still describe embassy legalisation in their own guides. So before you pay for any stamp, we confirm what that court or office accepts. To see which process your country uses, read [apostille or legalisation? Documents for Saudi Arabia by country](https://saudilaw.co/documents-from-abroad/).

Many court steps run through [Najiz](https://saudilaw.co/glossary/najiz/), the Ministry of Justice's online platform for cases and powers of attorney. To sign in, Najiz uses Nafath, the Saudi government's login app. Nafath needs a Saudi digital identity, which is linked to an ID issued in Saudi Arabia. Residents usually set it up with their [iqama](https://saudilaw.co/glossary/iqama/). So a client abroad usually works through a lawyer who holds their power of attorney.

Saudi courts run most hearings electronically, for example by video. For the whole topic, see [handling a Saudi legal matter from outside the Kingdom](https://saudilaw.co/from-abroad/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can my family hire a Saudi lawyer for me while I am in Saudi Arabia?

Usually, yes. Family abroad can usually hire a lawyer from home. In the first message, say who is writing, who the matter is about, where they are now and what has happened. If we can help, we send a written proposal for the work and the fee, and work starts only after the engagement letter is signed. If someone has been detained, see [what the family can do](/cases-arrests-travel-bans/someone-detained/).

### Can you help if I have already left Saudi Arabia?

Usually, yes. You sign a power of attorney in your own country, and a Saudi lawyer can then usually act for you in Saudi Arabia, including checking whether a case or travel ban is open. Some steps may still need you, or someone you appoint, in person. See [a case filed against you after you left Saudi Arabia](/from-abroad/case-filed-after-you-left/).

### Which languages do you work in?

We work in Arabic and English. Court work in Saudi Arabia is done in Arabic. This website may have pages in other languages, but that does not mean we can work with you in them. In your first message, tell us which language you prefer.

### Can you answer my legal question on WhatsApp?

Not in detail at first. On WhatsApp, we tell you whether we can help and what we need from you. If we can help, we send a written proposal for the work and the fee. Advice on your own situation comes only after an engagement letter is signed. Send a few lines, without ID copies or case documents. See [how to contact us](/contact/).

### How are fees agreed?

In writing, before any work starts. Once we understand your matter, we send a written proposal for the work and the fee, and the engagement letter comes from RAED ALI ALJOHANI COMPANY FOR Lawyership and Legal Consultations. You pay the fee directly to the firm, never on this site. See [how legal fees work in Saudi Arabia](/find-a-lawyer-in-saudi-arabia/how-legal-fees-work/).

### Is what I tell you kept confidential?

Yes. We keep your information confidential, as Saudi professional rules require of lawyers. Even so, send only a few lines at first, with no ID copies or case documents. Once we agree to act, we tell you which documents we need and how to send them. Nothing you write passes through this website: each button opens WhatsApp, your phone or your own email app.

General information about Saudi law, not advice on your situation. Contacting us does not create a lawyer–client relationship until an engagement letter is signed.
